Books
Donations of books and other materials
Donations of books and other materials are evaluated on an individual basis. Donated items become property of the Guelph Public Library and will be used in the best interests of our organization. You are invited to drop off a limited amount of materials to your closest branch. Some donated books are used as replacement copies or additions to the library collection, and other books are sold on our book sale trucks to raise funds for Collections and services.
We only accept books that are new or in nearly new condition including:
- hardcover books five years old or newer
- paperbacks three years old or newer
- literary classics in good condition and,
- undamaged DVDs and music CDs with the original jewel cases and booklets.
We do not accept videocassettes, CD-ROMs, textbooks, or books that are dated, damaged, yellowed, moldy, or musty.
For larger donations, please contact the Collections Librarian directly. For archival material, please contact the Archivist directly.
Due to the complex nature of used book valuation, tax receipts are not issued for donated books.
Book club donations
Donations of book club sets are gladly accepted at any library location and will be utilized in the best interest of our organization. If not added to the book club collection, books may be added to our shelves elsewhere or sold to raise funds for collections and services. Tax receipts cannot be issued for book donations.
Contact book club services if you'd like a library wish list of book club titles.
