Borrow From Another Library
Didn't find what you were looking for in our catalogue?
The Guelph Public Library welcomes your requests! We can borrow items from other libraries for you through Interlibrary Loan.
- Before requesting an Interlibrary Loan, check the Guelph Public Library catalogue. If we have the title you are looking for, please place a request through our catalogue.
- For items published within the last year, please Suggest a Purchase as most libraries will not lend out new material through Interlibrary Loan.
- There is a limit of 3 items that can be requested through Interlibrary Loan at one time.
How can I request an item through Interlibrary Loan?
Service Advisory: Due to the recent Canada Post strike, Interlibrary Loans may take longer to process as we work through the backlog of items. We appreciate your patience during this time. Thank you.
Items can be requested in person at any library location, by calling your nearest library or by completing the Interlibrary Loan request form.
*Interlibrary loan requests can take anywhere from four to six weeks (or more) to arrive.
What can I request?
The following can be requested through Interlibrary Loan:
- Print material (fiction and nonfiction) published more than one year ago.
- Audiobooks (Books on CD or Playaways).
- Compact Discs.
- Microfilm from the Archives of Ontario.
The following cannot be requested through Interlibrary Loan:
- Items already owned by Guelph Public Library.
- New material released less than a year ago.
- DVDs, Blu-rays or Video Games.
- Items available through Amazon.ca for less than $5.00.
- Book club sets.
- Microfilm/fiche.
- Textbooks.
- eAudio and eBooks.
Please be advised that low cost items may be denied an Interlibrary Loan at the library’s discretion as the cost to ship the material may outweigh its cost to purchase. If an Interlibrary Loan request is denied, please consider placing a Suggest a Purchase request instead, where we will be happy to evaluate adding the item to the collection according to the Material Selection Policy.
Interlibrary Loan Policies
We ask the following of all patrons wishing to make use of the Interlibrary Loan service:
- Pick up all Interlibrary Loans received in a timely manner
- Adhere to due dates set by the lending library
- Return all items in the condition they were received
- Check out all items received from lending libraries
Repeated non-observance of the above may result in a denial of Interlibrary Loan service.
How much does it cost?
- Interlibrary Loans from other public libraries are usually free of charge.
- Lost or damaged items will be charged to your account as determined by the lending library.
