The Tech Bar may be closed but Guelph Public Library still offers opportunities to develop your digital literacy skills! Visit the Makerspace at the Westminster Square Branch (100-31 Farley Drive) where you can discover, experiment and create using our many software and technology offerings in a hands-on learning environment.
Makerspace availability may vary due to programming or special events, but is typically available during afternoons, evenings and weekends.

BeepBot the iPal® Robot
Chosen by library Tech Bar staff from over 101 unique names, seven-year-old Kayla A. won the contest with her suggested name of Beepbot. Standing at three and half feet tall, this robot created by AvatarMind can move, dance and sing using its arms, sensors, speakers and facial expressions. The robot is designed to help kids learn life skills such as socialization, reading, spelling, mathematics and coding. It also provides children with a chance to experience the latest educational technology. Empowering library staff to deliver STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, music) programming and teach digital literacy skills to our community is a key objective of the Guelph Public Library’s current strategic plan.
3D Printing
The Main Library has two 3D printers for use by the public. Both 3D printers can be reserved at either 9:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m.. Reservations can be made by contacting the Tech Bar staff. There is no charge for using the printers. There is a two- hour time limit per person. For more information, please read our 3D printer rules.
3D Pen
There is one 3D pen available for use at the Tech Bar.
iMac Computer
There is one iMac computer available for use at the Tech Bar. This computer is used primarily for 3D printing.
Ozobot Bits
The Tech Bar carries Ozobot Bits made available for programs.
Sphero
The Tech Bar has seven Sphero robots that can connect to any smartphone or tablet.
Pocket C.H.I.P.
There are fourteen Pocket C.H.I.P coding devices that are used for the Pocket C.H.I.P. Coding Club program. These devices are only available for loan to registrants of this eight-week program series. This series runs once, quarterly, and can be registered for using the Events Calendar.
View-Master® VR Headsets
Experience virtual reality on the go! All you need is your own personal smart-phone and to borrow one of the five View-Master® VR headsets available for loan at the circulation desk of the Main Library.
Virtual Reality
The Tech Bar has an Oculus Rift available for use by the public. Please view the Virtual Reality Rules and Regulations.
To use virtual reality at the Tech Bar customers must sign the Virtual Reality Consent Form. This can be done in person or by submitting the online Virtual Reality Consent Form. Once the consent form is signed, customers will only need to show their library card to use the virtual reality technology. Parents or Guardians who consent to allow their children (under 13) to use the virtual reality technology will need to do so with each child's library card. To obtain a library card visit any Guelph Public Library location or register online to get a library card.
