Accessible Collections

The Guelph Public Library offers a wide range of materials in alternative formats for customers with visual impairments, physical disabilities and learning disabilities.

Large Print Books

Large print books are available at all of our library locations. Titles include a variety of best-sellers, fiction and non-fiction.

Audiobooks

Full length audiobooks are available to borrow on CD, MP3 CD, or through digital download to a computer or portable device.

DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System)

DAISY discs are audiobooks on a single CD specially formatted for full navigation. DAISY audiobooks on CD will play on any MP3 compatible device, although a DAISY player or a computer or tablet with DAISY software installed is required for full navigation of this format. A Victor Reader DAISY Player is also available to borrow by eligible cardholders with print disabilities.

Centre for Equitable Library Access

The Guelph Public Library is a member of the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA), the public library service for Canadians with print disabilities. A print disability is a learning, physical or visual disability that prevents a person from reading print material. As a CELA member we can provide easy access to CELA’s library of over 200,000 items in accessible formats including audio, eText and braille. Material delivery options include DAISY format (both text and audio), online download and Direct to Player download. Audio can be narrated or computer generated synthetic voice. You may directly register for CELA service using the self-registration form found at the the CELA website, or contact Community Outreach Services at 519-824-6220 ext. 264 for assistance.

eBooks, eAudiobooks, Downloadable Music and Video

The Guelph Public Library has a variety of eBooks, eAudiobooks, music and videos available for children and adults that can be downloaded to a computer or portable device. eBooks are available in both English and French.

Closed Captioned Video

Closed captioned videos have subtitles that can be viewed with a closed captioned decoder or with a built-in decoder on newer televisions models. Most feature DVDs offer optional subtitles as well.
