All GPL locations have computers available to the public. At each location you will find: catalogue computers and internet computers. Internet computers have Microsoft Office capabilities. Below is helpful information about each type of computer at the GPL.

Catalogue Computers: Catalogue computers may be used to search for library materials and to access GPL's eResources. There are no reservations for catalogue computers (first-come/ first-served basis). There are no time limitations enforced with catalogue computers.

Internet Computers: Internet computers can be accessed with a valid GPL card. Visitors can use GPL's internet terminals with a GPL visitor's pass. All GPL branch users are permitted to use a GPL internet terminal for 60 minutes per day. Main Library customers have unlimited access to internet stations. An acceptable user policy must be read and agreed upon before using these stations. There are no reservations for internet computers.


The Main Library has two types of laptops available for in-library use: HP laptops and Chromebooks. These laptops can be checked out at the Information desks with a valid GPL card and a second form of identification. Customers can borrow the laptops for two hours/day; however, if no other customers are waiting to use the laptops, time may be extended. Laptops may be used to access GPL's WiFi as well as for word processing needs. There are no reservations for GPL laptops.

All of GPL's Branch locations and the Main Library Children's department, now have chromebooks available for loan to Upper Grand District School Board students. The loan period for these Chromebooks is 7 days. All you need is your Guelph Public Library card to sign out a Chromebook.


The Main Library loans a Windows Surface Tablet and iPads to customers for in-library use. All branch locations have iPads available for in-library use loans. Tablets may be loaned via the Service Desks with a valid GPL card and a second form of identification. Tablets may be used to access GPL's WiFi and are loaned for 2 hours per day; however, if no other customers are waiting to use the devices, time may be extended.


The Main Library has a scanning station set up for public use, which also has Internet access if you need to email any scanned documents. Please ask at the Information Desk to access the scanner.


Printing is available at all GPL locations.

The Main Library offers the option for people to buy a re-usable copy card for $1, which may be used for copying or printing. By using a copy card you get 10% more printing.

Wireless printing is enabled at the Main Library, allowing you to print documents through our printing interface, using your email, or from a variety of devices and apps.

Instructions for using wireless printing

Please note: password-protected PDFs do not work with wireless printing.

Also: Wireless Network adapters must be set to “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically”, to be able to connect to the GPL wireless network.

To do this:
1.      Right Click on your Wireless network adapter and select “Properties”
2.      Click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and select “Properties”
