A trip to a local provincial park or nearby museum just got easier as the hold wait times for Guelph Public Library’s parks and culture passes move to a new quick pick model.
Passes for Ontario Parks, The Museum, Grand River Conservation Authority, and Art Gallery of Hamilton are now available for same-day pick up at all Library branches for a one-week loan period. Holds for the popular items will no longer be available. Instead, the number of available passes have increased and availability made on a first come, first served basis.
Patrons can check the online catalogue for pass availability by branch, and where available, pick them up the same day to plan their trip. They can also call the Library in advance to see what’s available.
The old model had long wait periods with an average of 143 holds on passes. Between the seven-day hold period followed by a seven-day loan period, patrons would wait around nine months for their turn, making it hard to plan trips and excursions around specific dates.
“So far, we’re hearing positive feedback about this change, especially for patrons who were much farther down the wait list and have since taken their trips,” says Meg Forestell-Page, Manager of Public Service. “Just like books, access to parks and culture passes reduces barriers in our community so natural and cultural experiences are available to everyone.”
