Sensory Support kits are now available for borrowing at all Guelph Public Library locations thanks to a partnership with Autism Canada and Willowool Foundation.
Sensory Support kits will provide patrons visiting the Library with tactile items that can be comforting to people with autism, supporting their efforts to self-regulate and remain calm when they experience stress. Patrons with a Library card can visit any branch desk to ask for a kit which is available for use in branch.
Sensory Support kits include:
- Lightweight reusable backpack
- Soft plushie
- Cozy fleece blanket
- Noise-reducing earmuffs
- Fidget items (pop it bubble game, spinner, and squishy ball)
- Tinted glasses for visual sensitivity
- Disinfectant wipes to clean after use
“Making sensory support kits available will improve access and reduce barriers to Guelph Public Library branches and programs, furthering our mission to create spaces that are inclusive where everyone belongs,” says Samantha Wellhauser-Bells, Supervisor of the Main Library.
